Inclusive Education

What is inclusive education?

At St Clair High School, we are committed to providing a supportive, inclusive, and high-quality learning environment for all students.

Our school offers seven specialist classes for students with disabilities who require additional support. Six of these classes make up our Inclusive Education Unit, while one class operates within the Learning Support Faculty to provide targeted assistance.

Each class has a maximum of seven students, allowing us to meet individual learning, social, emotional, behavioural, and communication needs.

Our dedicated team of Special Education qualified teachers and School Learning Support Officers (SLSOs) work collaboratively with the whole school community to ensure every student has access to the curriculum and the full high school experience.

Our goal is to deliver a quality education that promotes high expectations, inclusion, and independence for all learners.

Placement in Specialist Classes

Placement into specialist classes in NSW public schools is managed through an application process called an Access Request, which is reviewed with the support of a regional team.

If you would like more information about enrolment in our Support Unit, please contact your school counsellor or the Learning and Support Team at your local school.

Families can also use the School Locator tool to explore both regular and specialist schools that offer specialist classes.

Supporting Diverse Learning Needs

The specialist classes at St Clair High School currently support students with disability including students with:

  • Autism
  • Emotional and/or mental health difficulties
  • Intellectual disability

Our focus is on creating an inclusive environment where every student is supported to reach their potential.

Learning Opportunities and Pathways

Students placed in support classes will have Individual Education Plans developed in consultation with the student, parent/caregiver, and any other relevant parties. This plan is the basis for development of the student’s pattern of study and cater for their educational and vocational needs. All plans are reviewed annually to cater for students changing needs.

Students in our Inclusive Education classes engage in a wide variety of learning experiences designed to support their personal growth, independence, and future pathways. These include programs that build both living skills and work experience, delivered within the school and the wider community.
